Why bookings must stay on GearLend
GearLend's terms require that all bookings, payments, and communication about a rental happen through the platform, from the first message to the final return. Arranging a rental with someone you've met on GearLend, but paying or handing off equipment outside the platform, isn't permitted.
Why this matters
Booking and paying through GearLend is what puts identity verification, secure payment processing, the rental agreement, and the security deposit in place for both sides. None of these protections apply to arrangements made outside the platform — if something goes wrong with an off-platform transaction, GearLend has no way to help resolve it.
What this means in practice
- Don't share personal payment details (bank transfer, cash, etc.) to avoid GearLend's fees — this removes the protections a booking would otherwise have.
- Keep rental-related messages within GearLend's messaging system, so there's a record attached to the booking if it's ever needed.
- If an owner or renter asks you to take a booking off-platform, this is against GearLend's terms — you can report it to support@gearlend.com.au.
