How to book gear

Steps

1. Search or browse for the equipment you need by category, location, or keyword.
2. Check the listing for photos, condition notes, pricing, and the owner's availability calendar.
3. Select your dates — GearLend prices rentals by shoot day, so see Understanding shoot-day pricing to understand what you'll be charged for.
4. Verify your identity, if you haven't already — this is required before any booking can be completed. See Why GearLend verifies identity.
5. Review and accept the rental agreement, then complete payment, which includes the rental cost and a refundable security deposit.
6. Coordinate pickup or delivery with the owner through the platform once your booking is confirmed.

Messaging the owner

You can message a gear owner through the platform before booking if you have questions about the equipment, its condition, or availability. Keep this communication on GearLend so there's a record attached to the booking.

Cancelling a booking

If your plans change, you can cancel a booking from your account. Refund amounts depend on how close to the rental start date you cancel — check the listing or your booking confirmation for the specific cancellation terms that apply.
