Extending a booking

If your shoot runs long and you need the gear for longer than you originally booked, you can request an extension instead of booking it again from scratch, as long as the owner doesn't already have it booked out for the extra days.

Steps to request an extension​

  1. Go to your Inbox and open the booking you want to extend.
  2. Select Add days.
  3. Choose your new return and/or pickup date. The extra shoot days are priced the same way as your original booking. See Understanding shoot-day pricing for how shoot days are counted.
  4. Review the additional cost, which includes the extra rental price and a matching share of the community fee, then confirm payment.
  5. Wait for the owner to accept. This sends them a new request, similar to your original booking request.

Whether an extension can be accepted​

Extending a booking depends on the owner's calendar being open for the extra days you're requesting. If another renter already has the gear booked immediately after your original return date, the owner won't be able to accept, and you'll need to return the gear as originally agreed. Request extensions before your return date​

Ask for an extension before your original return time, rather than after. GearLend can't guarantee the owner will see or accept a request made once you were already due to return the gear, and returning it late without an approved extension may affect your standing on the platform. See Pickup and drop-off if you're simply running a little late rather than needing extra days.

If the extension is declined​

If the owner can't accommodate the extra days, your original booking and return date stay unchanged. You can look for another listing to cover the extra time you need, or return the gear as planned and book again later once it's available.

Cancelling an extension​

Once an extension is accepted, it becomes part of your booking, so the usual cancellation rules apply to the extended days as well. See Cancelling a booking as a renter if your plans change again.
