Security deposits

Most bookings on GearLend include a refundable security deposit, held at the time of booking alongside the rental payment.

Why deposits are held

The deposit gives gear owners confidence that they have some financial protection if equipment is returned damaged, incomplete, or late. It also encourages renters to treat gear with care.

When it's released

If the gear is returned on time and in the condition it was rented in, the deposit is released back to you after the rental period ends. Deposits are generally not released instantly — allow a few business days for the funds to reflect back on your original payment method.

If there's a problem

If an owner reports damage, missing items, or a late return, part or all of the deposit may be withheld to cover the issue. If you disagree with a deposit deduction, contact support@gearlend.com.au with your booking details and the team will help sort it out.
