How payments work

All payments on GearLend are processed securely through Stripe. Renters pay through the platform at checkout, and gear owners are paid out to their connected Stripe account — GearLend never handles cash or off-platform payments for bookings.

What renters pay​

At checkout, a booking total includes:

  • The rental price for your shoot days
  • A GearLend service fee, added to the rental price
  • A refundable security deposit (see Security deposits)

The full breakdown is always shown before you confirm a booking, so you know exactly what you're paying for.

What owners pay​

GearLend takes a commission from the rental price you set, deducted before your payout. The current fee is shown when you create a listing and again on each booking confirmation.

Why fees apply​

Fees fund the trust and safety infrastructure that makes peer-to-peer rentals of high-value equipment possible — identity verification, secure payment processing, customer support, and ongoing platform development.
